Cotto vs Margarito 2 - Do you applaud reckless behavior that endangers the well being of competitors, even more than the nature of the sport does on its own?
If the answer to that question is no, as it should be, then it is impossible to root for Antonio Margarito at all, and especially not in a rematch against a fighter he may have victimized with those very tactics.
When Miguel Cotto and Margarito face off in their bitter and emotional rematch on December 3, I will not be rooting for Tony. I have always admired Margarito's chin and heart, until I realized the latter was as black as coal.
Cotto Margarito - The use of plaster to harden the hand wraps, thereby inflicting more damage on a opponent, is not only unfair, but in my opinion, it is criminal. Why? Because it is negligent or malicious behavior to injure a person while they are pursuing their livelihood.
Let us ask this question. What if, God forbid, Cotto was paralyzed, suffered a blood clot or worse at the hands of Margaritio?
Do you not think he would be pursued for murder charges, or at least one humongous civil suit? I am all for forgiveness and allowing someone to pay their debt. The governing bodies suspended him; that is over, and now, he is back.
I am not saying he shouldn't be allowed to box, though if it were my decision, he would have been banished permanently. Still, that was not the ruling. The ruling was that he is licensed to box. Be that as it may, I could never root against a man trying to avenge a wrong that literally changed his career.
I generally don't outwardly root for anyone in my articles, but for this fight, I make the exception.
In the reworked spirit of Maximus Decimus Meridius, I hope that Miguel Cotto, victim of an altered career and target of a dirty tactic has his revenge in this life on the night of December 3.
